Kevin J. Homan, 50, Beardsley, MN, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday, May 28, 2010, at the Holy Trinity Hospital, Graceville, MN, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 1, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley with Fr. David Breu officiating. Music was provided by organist Carmen Hills and vocalists Sue Sykora and Danny Haukos.
Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Beardsley. Honorary pallbearers were all of Kevin's friends and neighbors that he cared so much about. Active pallbearers were Kris Anderson, Ricky Homan, Randy Homan, Darren Tritz, Andrew Tritz, Casey Homan, Anthony Homan, Brandon Nigg, Wyatt Tritz and Justin Tritz.
Visitation was Monday, May 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Kevin John Homan was born August 19, 1959, in Graceville, MN, to Anton "Tony" and Helen (Spindler) Homan. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley. He graduated from Beardsley High School in 1977. Kevin then began farming with his father and brothers.
On June 9, 1984, Kevin married Sandra Tritz at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville, MN. They continued to farm in the Beardsley area and were blessed with five children. Along with farming, Kevin enjoyed raising livestock, especially pigs, calves and chickens on the family farm he took so much pride in caring for.
Kevin was a member of the Farm Bureau, Interlake Creamery Board of Directors, and Knights of Columbus. He was a dedicated member of the Church of St. Mary's where he served on numerous church committees and was involved in several projects and activities. Kevin was the drummer in the Country Sunshine Band who played for many dances and benefits. He was also a member of the local Hee Haw Show.
Kevin enjoyed many memorable camping and boating trips and summer vacations with his family. He loved spending many hours on the lake pulling his kids, nieces and nephews skiing, tubing and knee boarding. Kevin will be remembered as someone always willing to help anyone at anytime. No matter what the day brought, he always had that loveable smile that brought joy to everyone around him. He was always a loving and devoted husband, father and son. Kevin was a hard worker wanting only to provide the best for his family and others.
Survivors include his wife Sandy of Beardsley; five children, Sarah Homan (Brad Rudolph) of St. Cloud, MN, Amanda Homan of Brookings, SD, Ryan, Laura, and Tyler Homan all at home in Beardsley; his mother Helen Homan of Beardsley; father and mother-in-law Milo and Joanne Tritz of Dumont, MN; three brothers, Chuck (Joan) Homan, Ed (Twila) Homan and Pat (Cindy) Homan, all of Beardsley, one sister Darlene (Wayne) Anderson of Graceville, MN, several brothers and sisters-in-law, 29 nieces and nephews, and 9 great nieces and nephews.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father Anton "Tony" Homan.
