Kenneth J. Kleindl, 84, Browns Valley, MN, died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at the Browns Valley Health Center, Browns Valley.
Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, August 6, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father David Breu officiating. Music was provided by organist Norma Jung and the St. Anthony's Choir.
Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley. Military honors were provided by the William Krensing American Legion Post 58 of Browns Valley. Honorary urn bearers were Eugene Kleindl, Keith Lewandowski, Kent Lewandowski, Jon Lewandowski, Steven Kleindl, Kevin Kleindl, Darin Kleindl, Jason Kleindl and Brian Kleindl. Active urn bearers were Galen and Connie Roark.
Visitation was Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Kenneth John was born May 12, 1927, in Park Rapids, MN, to Alvin and Velma (Roark) Kleindl. He attended country school at South Bryant, rural Browns Valley. After finishing school, he worked as a farmhand at the Harry and Hope Oletzke farm.
On November 8, 1950, Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged November 19, 1952. He then worked at Duffield's Station in Browns Valley and later served as the co-manager of the Browns Valley Cenex.
Kenneth was a member of the William Krensing American Legion Post 58, the Fort Sisseton VFW Post 3342 and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include two sisters, Geraldine (Mike) Lewandowski and Sharon Kleindl all of Browns Valley; a brother, Vernon (Phyllis) Kleindl of Apple Valley, MN; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Kleindl and Patricia Kleindl of Browns Valley, and Jeanette Kleindl of Newtonia, MO; and 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Laverne, Donald, Merwin and Lowell; and a sister, Lucille Kleindl.
