Kathleen Marie Plant Gibson was born September 18, 1949, to Burton and Marguerite (Randall) Plant in Sisseton, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Browns Valley, MN. She attended school in Browns Valley, graduating from Browns Valley High School in 1967.
That summer, she married David Schwagel and to this union six children were born. In 1981, Kathy became an EMT and continued for 18 ½ years. She loved it! She also helped out in the kitchen at Bobby Jo's for many years.
Kathy was a homemaker, gardener, teacher, and her children were her life. Along the way, she picked up an "adopted daughter" and an "adopted son." They were her children also.
She was the world's greatest mother, grandma, great-grandma, and friend. She was always there with open arms, a smile, and a hug. She always had an open heart full of love and ready to listen to all of our stories and trials in life. She knew just the right words to say for advice. Even if no words were spoken, her tender touch made everything okay again. She was our Rock!
Kathy loved horseback riding, camping, gardening, reading, knitting, and cooking. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Burton and Marguerite Plant; grandparents, Mac and Kate Randall and Charles and Pearl Plant; two grandsons, Devon Schwagel and Tanner Schwagel; and a nephew, Danny Plant.
Kathy is survived by her children, Susan Schwagel of Beardsley, Lee (Theresa) Schwagel of Corona, SD, Jackie (David) Nelson of Browns Valley, Dale (Robin) Schwagel of Dumont, MN, John Schwagel of Milbank, SD, Joy (Jeff) Mattson of Fergus Falls, MN, "adopted daughter" Kelsie Roscoe of Wheaton, MN, and "adopted son" Robert Grimli of Milbank; her grandchildren, Lee Jr., Sabrina, Lexi, and Addison Schwagel; Heather (Tim) Adair, Miranda (Brett) Kellner; Hailey and Tara Nelson; Ryan (Ally) Schwagel; Brittany (Kris) Lembcke; Tyler and Eric Schwagel; Cassidy, Brooke, Bailey, and Emersyn Schwagel; and Cooper Grimli. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren with three more on the way; a brother, Keith (Pat) Plant; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
