Kathleen A. Yost, 61, Browns Valley, MN, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral mass was Tuesday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father David Breu officiating. A polka mass was celebrated by Albert Mikesh. Additional music was provided by organist Norma Jung and vocalists Sue Sykora and Stacey Borgheiinck.
Burial was in the Windom Cemetery, Harmon Township, SD. Pallbearers were Howard Herberg, Casey Herberg, Parker Yost, Kevin Pistorius, Mike Groff, Dave Spindler, Joe Foren, and Dale Schwagel.
Visitation was Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Kathleen Ann was born February 2, 1951, in Graceville, MN, to Paul and JoAnn (Lewandowski) Serocki. She attended school in Browns Valley graduating in 1969. Kathy then attended Lake Area Vo-Tech in Watertown for cosmetology.
On September 26, 1970, Kathy married Orell Yost at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley. They lived, farmed, and milked cows in Harmon Township, Roberts County, SD. Kathy also operated a beauty shop out of her home. Kathy worked at the Browns Valley Health Center for 17 years and cleaned at the Browns Valley Post Office. For 13 years, Kathy and Orell were security guards at dances at the Browns Valley Coliseum. In the past few years, Kathy wrote the Grant-Bryant News for local newspapers.
Kathy was a member of the St. Anthony's Guild, Christian Mothers, and the Browns Valley Alumni Association. In 2011, she was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame.
Kathy enjoyed writing poetry and doing word searches. She also loved gardening and taking nature rides on the Gator with the grandkids.
Survivors include her husband, Orell of Browns Valley; son, Gary (Michelle) Yost of Wheaton, MN; two daughters, Connie (Gene) Herberg of Browns Valley and Christy Yost of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Howard, Casey, Danielle, Victor and Vincent Herberg, and Parker and Shayna Yost; two brothers, Joe (Patsy) Serocki of Browns Valley and Paul (Kathy) Serocki of Wilmot, SD; three sisters, Franny (Lawrence) Renelt of Burnsville, MN, Pat (Leon) Westbrock of Alexandria, MN, and Mary (Ben) Beyl of Rosholt, SD; and badly missed by J.R.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Bob and Jerry "Spud" Serocki.
