Victor John was born May 29, 1944, to Francis and Laura (Donnell) Bauman at the IHS Hospital in Sisseton. His father Francis passed away when John was 9 years old. At age 14, the family moved to Browns Valley, MN, from Aberdeen, SD, where his stepdad Harold Jones worked for the railroad. It was in Browns Valley that John grew to love working on cars at Jim Madison's Body Shop. He then moved to Minneapolis and Duluth, MN, working as a laborer. He loved drawing and painting pictures and was very good at it.

In 1989 John suffered a brain injury requiring him to live in custodial care, first at McCarthy Manor in Duluth, then Browns Valley Health Care Center, and lastly Havenwood Home in Wheaton where he has spent the last 10 years. While at Havenwood he also worked at Broadway Industries. Wherever John resided he always made friends and got along well with everyone. Havenwood became his home; the staff, clients, and Harley their dog being his family. He will always be remembered by his teasing ways, loving to laugh and making others laugh. John was a member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate.

Survivors include two sisters, Frances Johnson and Peggy (David) Johnson all of Eden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Dorothy Scrimsher, Mary Sippel and Ann Selzler; and two brothers, Joseph Bauman and George Bauman.

All who knew John will miss him. Rest in peace dear friend and brother!
