Joanne Helen Peterson

Joanne H. Peterson, 88, Sisseton, SD, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton with Rev. Josh Knudsen officiating. Music will be provided by pianist Kevin Peterson and vocalist Pat Schubert.

Burial will be in the Saron Lutheran Cemetery, rural Sisseton. Pallbearers will be Ron Peterson, Dan Bennis, Robert Muellerliele, David Muellerliele, Derek Peterson, and Cody Straus.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt and will continue Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church.

Joanne Helen Peterson was born February 13, 1934, in Watertown, SD, to Raymond and Mildred (Chambers) Bunde. She attended school in Watertown and Sisseton, graduating Sisseton High School as Salutatorian in 1952. After graduation, she completed the 4 year Bachelor of Science in nursing program at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, and the Sioux Valley nursing program in Sioux Falls, SD, where she became a registered nurse.  She worked several years as an RN at the public health hospital in Sisseton and also at the Sisseton community hospital.

On June 30, 1957, Joanne married Dennis Peterson in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They returned to rural Sisseton and farmed and raised black Angus cattle their entire lives.

Joanne was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidery, gardening, and baking.

Survivors include her sons, Jon (Theresa) Peterson of Medford, OR, David Peterson of Sisseton, James Peterson of Sisseton, and Daniel (Pam) Peterson of Horace, ND; six grandchildren, Rachel Peterson, Kelly Peterson, Erin (Dan) Bennis, Zachary Luptak, Samantha Carlson, and Breslen Peterson; great-grandson Nick Bennis; and sister, Norma Fredrickson.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; and son, Paul Peterson.
