Jeraldine F. Sorenson, 86, Sisseton, SD, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at the Northeast Care and Rehabilitation Center in Rosholt, SD.

Funeral services were Tuesday, September 23, at 11:00 a.m. at the New Effington Community Center in New Effington. Jane Miller and Beth Arlene Pierce officiated the service. Music was provided by pianist Dixie Miller.

Burial was in the Sisseton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rob Oien, Ron Oien, Toby Magnuson, Gary Magnuson, Ryan Brewster, Scott Olson, Jacob Magnuson and Rob Boyer.

Visitation was Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation continued Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the Community Center in New Effington.

Jeraldine Faye Mannin was born September 17, 1928, to Robert and Helen (Delbridge) Mannin on a farm near Veblen, SD. She left school at age 16 to care for her mother who had suffered a stroke. Geraldine later obtained her GED.

On May 1, 1947, Jeraldine married Alvin Sorenson in Sisseton, SD. They made their home on a farm between Veblen and Sisseton. Jeraldine was a farm wife and did nursing care at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center. She later served as the manager of the city municipal store in Peever, SD. She was employed at the county yard in Sisseton and worked with the Green Thumb program. Alvin passed away June 8, 1979. She moved to the Northeast Care and Rehabilitation Center in Rosholt in 2011.

Jeraldine enjoyed raising Capon chickens and grew exceptional vegetable gardens. She was a true people person and loved music and reading.

Survivors include four children, Laurel Ceroll of Custer, SD, Linda (Bob) Oelkers of Zephyr Hills, FL, Lillian Magnuson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Lois Magnuson of New Effington; eight grandchildren, Rob Oien, Ron Oien, Cristi Oien, Diane Ceroll Olson, Gary Magnuson, Jennifer Boyer, Toby Magnuson, and Mara Magnuson Brewster; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Lucille Sansom of Georgetown, TX.

Jeraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Mannin; her husband, Alvin; and four sons-in-law.
