Jean K. Ladiana, 82, Graceville, MN, died Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville with Father David Breu officiating. Music was provided by pianist Deb Farwell and vocalists Chris Weick, Deb Stueve, Sandi Bauer, and Jean Costello.
Burial will be at a later date in the St. Peter Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
Visitation was Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.
Jean Kathleen was born March 12, 1933, in Graceville to Joseph and Margaret (Bohnenkamp) Arens. She was raised on a farm 3 ½ miles from Dumont. Jean went to school in Dumont and later graduated from Graceville High School in 1952. Her first job was working in Cota Café. She then went to work in the Cities in a clothing factory making clothes for Munsingwear.
After attending her sister's wedding in New Jersey, she attained a job and lived in Staten Island. In 1954, Jean married and worked at St. Mary's rectory for 22 years and later worked at the Staten Island Ferry for ten years. After retiring in 1999, Jean sold her home and lived with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren for a short while. In 2003, she moved back to Minnesota.
Jean was a very loving, special mother and grandmother who was loved by all who knew her. She worked extremely hard her entire life, but she never tired of giving of herself and lending a helping hand in so many beautiful ways. Jean was well known for her green thumb and her incredible baking. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, as well as a true friend who will surely be missed by all.
Jean is survived by her son, Richard and daughter-in-law Liz of Staten Island; grandsons Philip and Anthony; granddaughter Jennifer (Eddie); four great-grandsons, Edmund, Angelo, Joseph and Nicholas; three sisters, Rita Ladiana of Buffalo, NY, Jane Arens of St. Paul, MN, and Nancy (Jim) Murphy of Graceville; a brother, Tony (Bev) Arens of Graceville; 41 nieces and nephews; 81 great nieces and great nephews; as well as 5 great-great nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity in her name.
