Janice Kay Kaufman, 68, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, August 29, 2010, at her residence in Moorhead.
Funeral services were Thursday, September 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Walla Lutheran Church, rural New Effington, SD, with Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Music was provided by pianist Melanie Yost.
Burial was in the Walla Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Grant Kaufman, Jay Kaufman, Joanna Kaufman, Ron Martinka, Alex Goenne, Charlie Youngberg and Brad Eggers.
Visitation was Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt and continued Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Janice Kay Dalin Kaufman was born May 9, 1942, in Veblen, SD, to Emil and Helen (Meyer) Dalin. She grew up on a farmstead near New Effington along with her sister, Janet Faye. She was baptized and confirmed at Walla Lutheran Church in rural New Effington where she also attended Hart #4 and New Effington grade schools. She graduated in 1960 from New Effington High School.
Janice was also taught voice and piano lessons by Sister Solitaire in a Catholic school in Hankinson, ND. Her joy of playing and singing music stayed with her throughout her lifetime and she would pass this love of music and creativity to her children.
She married Wayne Kaufman in 1960 and eventually settled in Moorhead, MN, where they raised their five children and where she would live out the remainder of her life.
Janice enjoyed most - singing and playing her piano, watching classic movies, riding her bicycle, working outside in the yard, walking her dog Major, and spending joyous time with her beloved grandchildren.
Survivors include her two sons, Jay Kaufman of Moorhead and Grant (Shannon) Kaufman of Bloomington, MN; three daughters, Gay (Bob) Lyons of Oakland, CA, Kelly Kaufman of West Fargo, ND, and Joanna Kaufman of Glen Burnie, MD; four grandchildren, Alex Goenne, Parker, Jacob and Caleb Kaufman; a sister, Janet (Buster) Stover of Kingsport, TN; two nephews, Andy and Alan Stover; and a niece, Terry (Jimmy) Stover-Chastain.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
