A very special person who had too much faith, courage, and strength left us to be with those who went before us. Janice "Jackie" Braaten, 78, Rosholt, SD, died peacefully at home Tuesday, June 7, 2011, surrounded by those who loved her and under the care of Lakeland Hospice after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services were Friday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt with Rev. Nancy Quatier officiating. Music was provided by pianist Todd Quatier.
Burial was in the Bethania Cemetery, Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were the Browns Valley High School Class of 1950.
Janice was born September 30, 1932, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Ervin and Gladys (Seberson) Fogel. She attended schools in Alden, MN, Rosholt, and Browns Valley, MN, graduating from Browns Valley High School in 1950.
She worked at Northland's in Browns Valley for many years prior to her marriage to Robert Braaten on June 3, 1953, in Zion Lutheran Church in Browns Valley. To this union three children were born, Bradley, William and Julie. They lived south of Rosholt then moved to Farwell, MN, and then on to the Twin Cities before returning to a farm north of Rosholt in 1967 where she still resided.
Janice sold Home Interior for a number of years. Janice will be remembered by her family and friends for the love she showed them and her endless sense of humor. She made a positive difference in countless lives and she will be greatly missed.
Janice is greeted in heaven by her son, Billy in 1970, her husband, Bob in 1976, and her parents.
Grateful for sharing her life include her daughter, Julie Braaten of Rosholt; her son, Brad Braaten of Rosholt; three grandchildren, Riley Braaten, Bobbi Jo (Casey) Steffens, and Shane (Lori) Braaten; four great-grandchildren, Emma, Madison, and Levi Steffens and Cheyenne Braaten; two sisters, Betty Busch of Edina, MN, and Sharon (Bill) Reil of Wilmot, SD; two sisters-in-law, Arleen Braaten of Felton, MN, and Madeline (Earl) Olson of Alexandria, MN; numerous nieces and nephews; and the family pets, Sadie and Sunday.
