A Memorial Service and Burial for Jim Nun will be held Friday, May 6, 2022, at 12:00 noon at the Graceville Consolidated Cemetery in Graceville, MN. Following the service, a Celebration of Jim's Life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Graceville Bar and Lounge.
James "Jim" Frederick Nun was born on May 6, 1937, in Alexandria, NE, to Bert and Alice Nun. The Nuns moved to a farm near Graceville, MN in 1941. He spent the first five years of elementary school in a one room school in Parnell Township and finished at Graceville Public School graduating from Graceville High School in 1955.
Jim served four years in the U.S. Navy. He then returned to Graceville, farmed for a couple years, and then went back to California. Jim's dream was to retire early and move back to the place he loved so much, Graceville, Minnesota. So after 25 years with the Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles, he retired in 1988 at the age of 51.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football and NASCAR, and drinking beer with friends at the ole bars in and around town – D.O's Tavern, Headquarters, Whoopee's in Barry, and Bear's Den in Johnson. He loved sitting on his deck, driving his Jeep in the country, daily walks around town even in winter, and last but not least, drinking coffee with his buddies at Graceville Bar and Lounge.
Jim's family includes his brother, John (Mimi) Nun; daughters, Doreen, Carol and Janet; five grandchildren, Shana Vold, Nycette, Joey, Jimmy and Brandi; four great-grandchildren; nephew, Craig (Ellen) Nun; great-nephew, Jake; niece, Tara and her two children; special friend, Carole Simpson; and his beloved cat, Jack.
Jim left this world peacefully at the age of 84 on November 27, 2021, at Grace Home in Graceville. May he rest in peace.
