Hildreth "Hillie" Simonson, 84, Rosholt, SD, peacefully went to heaven surrounded by family on Saturday, November 24, 2012, after having fought the good fight against congestive heart failure and osteoporosis. She was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were Wednesday, November 28, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt with Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand and vocalist Kia Griffey.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were Marcy Johnson, Barb Johnson, Maureen Simonson, Marlene Hanson, Gladys Pearson, Bonnie Jackson, Violet Anderson, Violet Milbrandt, Doris Pearson and Lila Akerson. Active pallbearers were her grandsons, Stacy Simonson, Benjamin Simonson, Corey Simonson, Josiah Griffey, Dane Simonson and Dustin LeClair.
Visitation was Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation continued Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Hildreth Adeline Menge was born in Parnell Township near Graceville, MN, on March 21, 1928, to Albert and Anna (Graf) Menge. She grew up in the Wheaton area and graduated from Wheaton High School.
Hildreth married Ethen Simonson on January 12, 1952, in Breckenridge, MN. They lived in several locations in Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado, California and South Dakota while raising a growing family. Hillie devoted and sacrificed her time and life to raising her family. She worked many years at Dale's Steakhouse, Wheaton, MN. Later she baked and designed cakes. Her love of cooking and baking blessed many.
Hillie was loved and noted for her straightforward sense of humor and an attitude of contentment. During her lifetime she enjoyed traveling; this included trips to Germany and surrounding European countries as well as Alaska.
Hildreth is survived by her children, son Rick (Virginia) Simonson, Browns Valley, MN (Stacy, Benjamin and Corey); daughter, Debra (Chad) Griffey, Moorhead, MN (Josiah and Kia); son, Craig (Kristine) Simonson, Montrose, MN, (Dane, Brooke and Emma); daughter, Susan (Gary) LeClair, Rosholt, SD (Dustin and Crystal); and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Anna Menge; sisters, Hazel Gallimore and Wilma Blackledge and her brother, Emmett Menge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Rosholt Ambulance.
