Hazel Wagner

Hazel V. Wagner, 98, Rosholt, SD, died Friday, December 16, 2011, at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton, MN.
Funeral services were Tuesday, December 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem Covenant Church in Wheaton with Pastor Tim Shekleton officiating. Music was provided by organist Cheryl Shekleton and vocalist Dennis Johnson.
Interment was in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Roeder and Dawn Julson. Active pallbearers were Dennis Nelson, Tom Wagner, Dale Wagner, Curtis Wagner, Dennis Stark and Lyle Lupkes.
Visitation was Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.
Hazel Verna was born September 13, 1913, on a rural Richland County farm near Hankinson, ND, to William and Amanda (Zarling) Bork. Hazel was baptized at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hankinson and confirmed at the United Church of Christ in Hankinson. She grew up and attended school in rural Greendale Township.
On June 1, 1939, Hazel married Hubert L. Wagner at the St. Phillip's Catholic Church parsonage in Hankinson. The Wagners farmed in Lien Township, Roberts County near New Effington, SD, until 1963 when they moved into Rosholt and owned and operated the Rosholt Meat Locker until her full retirement in 1986.
Hazel was a very active church member at the United Methodist Church in Rosholt. She and Hubert were quite the square dancers for a number of years in a square dance club in Hankinson. Hazel loved to entertain and play cards with family and friends. She was a wonderful gardener, enjoying putting up the fresh vegetables that she nurtured all summer long. Hazel and Hub also very much enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Kathleen Wagner of Rogers, MN; a grandson and wife, Mark and Ruth Wagner of Myrtle Beach, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters; and three brothers.
