Harold "Harry" Ellingson was born August 11, 1925, in Fergus Falls, MN, to Henry and Vlasta (Novak) Ellingson. Harry had one brother, Howard.
He attended grades 1-8 at Lien 4 Township grade school in rural New Effington. He graduated in 1944 after which time he began his farming career in the New Effington area.
In June of 1949, Harry went out to Seattle to bring home the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Inez Veflin. On September 10, 1949, they were married at Zion Lutheran Church, New Effington. They were blessed with two children, Greg and Diana. In 1963, the family moved to his family farm north of New Effington. He took great pride in keeping his farm well groomed.
Harry was a very devoted, patient and loving husband, dad and grandpa. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great joy. Playing sale barn, riding and driving his prized Allis Chalmers WD-45, giving them foot treatments and back massages and endless other fun adventures warmed his heart.
Harry was a director of the New Effington Development Corporation for twenty years, member and council member and Luther League Advisor at Faith Lutheran Church and for twenty years he was a director on the Sisseton/New Effington Farmer's Coop Elevator Board.
In 2009, he retired from farming. He could then be seen each morning enjoying his friends and "shaking" for coffee at Mikey's. In 2015, he and Inez moved to the Countryside Inn in Rosholt, SD, where they acquired their "2
nd
family." With his health failing, Harry entered the Northeast Care Center in August of 2016. On September 9, the Lord called Harry home.
Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife of 67 years, Inez of Rosholt; son, Greg Ellingson of New Effington; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Ron Mittleider of Herreid, SD; six grandchildren, Ryan (Liz) Ellingson, Holly (Josh) Roark, Katie Ellingson, all of Fargo; Laci (Matt) Aberle, Courtney (Chad) Neff, Kayley (Andy) Cartmill, all of Bismarck, ND; six great-grandchildren, Emry and Amden Roark, Cambree and Bridger Neff, William Cartmill and Bennett Aberle.
