Harold H. Berneking

Funeral services were Monday, December 23, at 3:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Browns Valley with Rev. Paul Warnier officiating.  Music was provided by organist Ginny Westbrock.

Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley.  Pallbearers were Harold's grandsons, Shawn Feltus, Laine Schmitz, Brian Serocki, Chad Serocki, Dallas Berneking, Trevor Berneking and Troy Berneking.

Visitation was Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.   The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Herman Berneking was born October 18, 1915, in Walls Township, Traverse County, MN, to Paul and Helena (Zimmerman) Berneking.  He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Parnell Township and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dumont.  He attended school through the eighth grade.

On October 18, 1941, Harold married Hazel Hoaglund at Zion Lutheran Church.  He farmed his entire life in Windsor Township, rural Wheaton.  After retiring in 1980, Harold and Hazel moved to Browns Valley.  Hazel passed away in 1995. After breaking his hip, Harold entered the Browns Valley Health Center on December 4.

Survivors include four children, Lois (Robert) Schmitz of Beardsley, MN, Helen (Richard) Serocki of Browns Valley, Dennis (Diane) Berneking of Browns Valley, and Dean (Marietta) Berneking of Grand Marais, MN; son-in-law, Wilbert Feltus of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Shawn (Jamie) Feltus, Dawn Feltus (fiancé Jake Ihle), Laine (Ginger) Schmitz, Brian Serocki, Chad (Kayla) Serocki, Kristi (Travis) DeJong, Dallas Berneking and close friend Kay Mehrer, Trevor (Mandie) Berneking, and Troy (Jackie) Berneking; and a brother, Marlin (Arletta) Berneking of Alexandria, MN.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; daughter, Karen Feltus; brother, Edwin; sister, Viola Karger; and two infant brothers.
