Harlyn D. Bartz, 80, Browns Valley, MN, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at St. William's Care Center in Milbank, SD.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 3, at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Browns Valley with Rev. Paul Warnier officiating. Music will be provided by organist Ginny Westbrock.
Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley. Pallbearers will be Roy Bartz, Jon Bartz, Paul Gunderson, Jack Gunderson, Todd Bartz and Ty Bartz.
Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, is in charge of the arrangements.
Harlyn Dean Bartz was born October 27, 1936, to Harold and Elvera (Yost) Bartz in Wheaton, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Windom Lutheran Church in rural Browns Valley. He attended rural school in South Bryant. He then attended Sisseton High School for two years and Browns Valley High School for two years, graduating with the Class of 1954. After finishing school, Harlyn served in the South Dakota National Guard and worked at Gray Construction and Bell Telephone.
In 1961, Harlyn married Carol Hedrick at Zion Lutheran Church in Browns Valley. He then began farming with his father. He continued farming with Carol until retiring in 2008.
Harlyn was a member of the Hills and Valley Riding Club. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, bowling, and card games with his buddies. Harlyn also loved spending time with his two grandkids, who were the apples of his eye.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Browns Valley; daughter, Dawn (John) Stewart of Ogden, UT; grandson, Phillip Stewart of Portland, OR; granddaughter, Jordan (Brian) Ballinger of Fountain, CO; great-grandson, Maddox Ballinger; two sons, Bradley Laroche of Watertown, SD, Bryon Laroche of Ortonville, MN; sister, Delores (Laverne) Lehrke of Sisseton, SD; brothers, Dale (Diane) Bartz of Marshall, MN, and Vernon (Patti) Bartz of St. Cloud, MN; and sister-in-law, Ruth Bartz of Sisseton.
Harlyn was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carmen and Arvin; and sister, Audrey Gunderson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. William's Care Center in Milbank, SD, the Browns Valley Ambulance Service or any pro-life group of your choice.
