Gordon L. Nigg

Gordon Nigg, 91, Browns Valley, MN, died Sunday, July 24, 2011, in rural Peever, SD.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father David Breu officiating. Music was provided by organist Norma Jung and vocalists Sue Sykora, Stacey Borgheiinck and Todd Johnson accompanied by Pat Homan.
Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley. Pallbearers were grandsons, Kyle McClellan, Dave Wasness, Brandon Nigg, and Nathan Nigg, and Pete Jensen, Layne Moeller, David Nigg, Louie Nigg, and Jim Nigg.
Visitation was Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation continued Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gordon Louis Nigg was born September 27, 1919, to parents Louis and Gladys (Johnson) Nigg at his maternal grandparents' home in Easter Township, Roberts County, SD. Gordon attended school in Easter Township #3. After his education, he farmed with his family and later with his son, Tim.
Gordon was united in marriage to Patricia Fermoyle on December 30, 1950, at Barry, MN. After their marriage, they lived on a farm near Browns Valley and in 1956 moved into Browns Valley.
Gordon was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed life in the field, even managing to haul some grain to the elevator last fall. Gordon was a devoted dad and grandfather always taking the time to play with his children and grandchildren, and usually with a niece or nephew on his lap at family gatherings. Over the years all the kids who passed through his life brought him great joy. He was known to many as Grandpa or "Dordon." Many winters were spent snowmobiling with family and friends.
Gordon's last years were mostly spent in his "easy chair" with his radio and TV and watching the traffic go by on the highway. He would still take drives out to the fields with a stop at Ben's Service and Goodhart's shop. His last minutes were spent checking the fields as he passed away with a head of wheat on his lap.
Gordon is survived by three children, Shirley (Dan) McClellan of St. Michael, MN, Timothy (Beverly) Nigg of Browns Valley, and Sandra Nigg of Browns Valley; six grandchildren, Kyle McClellan, Heather (Dave) Wasness, Sheila Nigg, Melissa Nigg, Brandon Nigg, and Nathan Nigg; one sister, Cleo (Alan) Moeller of Piedmont, SD; two brothers, Lloyd (Garnet) Nigg of Alexandria, MN, and William (JoAnn) Nigg of Browns Valley; two sisters-in-law, Edith Nigg of Sisseton, and Evelyn Krause of Watertown, SD; and a brother-in-law, Rolland Jensen of Browns Valley.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; an infant son; his parents; brothers, Orlynn, Don, and Dale; and a sister, Kay Jensen.
