Gordon R. Kenney, 87, Beardsley, MN, died Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Wilmot Care Center, Wilmot, SD.
Funeral services were Tuesday, February 2, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley with Father David Breu officiating. Music was provided by organist Janet Kellen and vocalists Sue Sykora and Stacey Borgheiinck.
Burial will be at a later date in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Beardsley.
Visitation was Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.
Gordon Richard Kenney was born September 29, 1922, in Minneapolis, MN. At the age of three, he was adopted by James and Mary (Frey) Kenney. He graduated from Beardsley High School. After working at an aircraft factory in California during World War II, he returned to the Beardsley area and farmed with his father.
On May 14, 1946, Gordon married Ruth Duehr in Browns Valley, MN. Three children were born to this union, Michael, LuAnne and Kathy. After his marriage, Gordon continued to farm retiring in 1969. Gordon later worked on various construction projects including the Big Stone Power Plant and the Interstate 29 bridgework.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Beardsley; two daughters, LuAnne (Ron) Berning of Dilworth, MN, and Kathy (Paul) Serocki of Wilmot; five grandchildren, Heidi (Stu) Wedell, Erica (Jon) Peterson, Kyle (Kelly) Serocki, Sarah (David) Schoenfelder, and Mike Serocki; and six great-grandchildren, Ellie and Morgan Peterson, Erin and Ava Wedell, Elizabeth Schoenfelder, and Steve (Erika) Peterson.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Michael.
