Glen "Bud" A. Johnson, 93, Moorhead, MN, formerly of New Effington, SD, passed away Friday, July 17, 2020, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

A private family funeral service will be Saturday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington with Vicar Karie Geyer officiating. Music will be provided by organist Deb Bredvik and vocalist Linda Loberg.  Honorary urn bearers will be Bud's grandchildren.

The funeral service will be live streamed on the Eggers Funeral Home Facebook page.

Friends are welcome to attend the graveside service immediately following the funeral at the Garden of Rest Cemetery, New Effington. Military honors will be provided by the Read-Veflin American Legion Post 180 of New Effington.

Glen Albert Johnson was born February 8, 1927, to Albert G. and Mabel (Martinson) Johnson in Sisseton, SD. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Goodwill Lutheran Church in Sisseton and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in New Effington. Bud attended school in New Effington graduating from New Effington High School in 1945. On April 27, 1945, Bud entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged October 19, 1946, and received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). After returning home, Bud attended Long Beach Business College in Long Beach, CA, from 1947-48 and Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, from 1949-50.

On August 26, 1951, Bud married Lois Hammer at Nidaros Lutheran Church in Hammer. After their marriage, they lived in New Effington. Bud first worked at the New Effington elevator. He was then employed as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for the rest of his career. Bud was the city auditor for many years and during tax season opened an office in his home and did taxes. He was president of the New Effington School Board. After his retirement in 1987, he became a member of the NARFE.

Bud was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he served on the parish council and church cemetery board. He also sang in the Faith Choir.

Bud was very active in the New Effington community. He was a World War II veteran and buff and belonged to the American Legion and the honor guard. He enjoyed doing research on area veterans and activities. He also served on the New Effington Fire Department.

In later years, Bud and Lois were very involved in the Community Center, New Effington School Reunions, and city Anniversary celebrations, especially the 50 th and 75 th city anniversaries. They volunteered extensively at the New Effington Museum and Bud could often be found fixing things there.

In his younger years, Bud was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and softball. Bud and Lois had their Friday night pizza group and rarely missed coffee at Mikey's. He loved attending the grandchildren's sporting events and thoroughly enjoyed his great-grandchildren. Bud and Lois made their home in Fargo in 2013. Lois passed away April 23, 2020.

Survivors include his children, Vicki (Neil) Bosch of Fargo and Scott (Suzanne) Johnson of Fargo; grandchildren, Kyle (Crystal) Bosch, Tyler (Kirsten) Bosch, Samantha Johnson, and Shantel Johnson; great-grandkids, Jack Bosch, Evelyn Bosch, William Bosch, Claire Bosch, and Decker Bosch; and a sister, Joan of Rose Hill, KS.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mabel; stepmother, Inga Johnson; sisters, Vivian, Ruby, Gloria, Arlene, and Joyce; and brothers, Arnold, Ronald, Wesley, and Curtis.
