Gilbert E. Olson, 90, Graceville, MN, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015, at Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Clinton United Methodist Church in Clinton, MN, with Rev. Anna Williamson officiating. Music will be provided by organist Sandy Vold. Burial will be in the Clinton City Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gilbert Ellsworth Olson was born on February 17, 1925, in Colon, NE, to Lawrence and Jeannette (Borreson) Olson. When Gilbert was five, the family moved to Minnesota. He attended country school in Graceville and high school in Clinton.
In 1942 at the age of 17, Gilbert started farming in the Clinton and Graceville area. He served two years in the Army National Guard. Gilbert married Zella Fetterley of Beardsley, MN, on March 11, 1949, in Webster SD. Gilbert continued to farm until moving to Clinton in 1987. He also did driving for Prairie Five.
Gilbert served on the Graceville Township Board as a supervisor for 18 years. He was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church since 1938 when he was confirmed into the Church. He served as a trustee for the church and membership chairman for several years.
Gilbert's hobbies were gardening and traveling.
Survivors include his daughters, Carol Coulter of Staples, MN, and Doris Loes of Maplewood, MN; sons, Gordon (Linda) Olson of Madison, WI, and Dale (Cheri) Olson of Washington, NJ; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Clifton; and sister Rosalyn.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Zella; parents, Lawrence and Jeannette; sisters, Lorraine and Velma; and brothers, Dwight and Lyle.
Memorials may be directed to Feed Our Starving Children or the local food bank.
