Gertrude H. L. Bartnick, 89, Sisseton, SD, died Friday, July 29, 2011, at the Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.
Funeral services were Wednesday, August 3, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City with Rev. Douglas Wanderer officiating. Music was provided by organist Edwin Arndt, Jr., and vocalists Paul and Diane Bartnick, Cory Gray and Jaydeen Fish.
Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Claire City. Pallbearers were Gertrude's grandsons Cory Gray, Aarik Gray, Denny Lehrke, Nate Bartnick, Noah Bartnick and Nolan Bartnick. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters Jaydeen Fish, Carissa Metz and all of her grandchildren's families.
Visitation was Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD. Visitation continued Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gertrude Hulda Laura was born February 19, 1922, in rural Claire City, SD, to Albert and Minnie (Krone) Schuschke. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City. She attended country school and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1940.
On June 6, 1945, Gertrude married Lester Bartnick at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City, SD. They were blessed with two children, Dianne and Dale.
Gertrude was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she served as organist, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir member, and a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Gertrude enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, word search puzzles, dancing, square dancing, and flower gardening.
She had been a resident at Greenleaf Assisted Living in Sisseton, SD, since September of 2006.
Survivors include two children, Dianne (Dean) Lehrke of Sisseton, SD, and Dale (Leatrice) Bartnick of Wahpeton, ND; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lester.
