Geraldine "Gerri" J. Anderson, 70, Beardsley, MN, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were Monday, January 30, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Holden Lutheran Church in Beardsley, with Minister Bev McNeill officiating. Music was provided by organist Deb Wentland and vocalist Renee Schwagerl.
Honorary pallbearers were Gerri's grandsons Austin and Garrett Martinez and Thomas and Mitchell Fulton.
Visitation was Monday from noon to 2:00 p.m. in the church.
Gerri Joyce was born August 14, 1941, in Minot, ND, to Stanley and Barbara (Kupser) Oberg. She spent most of her early years in Aberdeen and Mitchell, SD, having graduated from Notre Dame High School in Mitchell in 1959.
On December 6, 1958, Gerri married Robert A. Engels in Mitchell. They spent many years in Watertown, SD, where Gerri graduated from Lake Area Technical Institute. She worked as a respiratory therapist in hospitals in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota.
On September 13, 1980, Gerri married Dale Anderson in Milbank. The couple resided on Big Stone Lake near Beardsley for most of their 31 years together. They wintered in Arizona and Florida for several years. They enjoyed spending time in the warm climate with family and friends.
Gerri was a member of the Holden Lutheran Church. She was an avid golfer, bridge player and quilter. She loved to cook and read.
Gerri is survived by her husband, Dale Anderson of Beardsley; three daughters, Kelly (Jon) Fulton of Madison, MN, Nancy (Jerry) Martinez of Abilene, TX, and Paula (Dennis) Newman of Watertown, SD; Six brothers and sisters, Myron (Janet) Oberg of Satellite Beach, FL, Roxyann (Loyd) Wesche of Bellingham, WA, Michael (Caroline) Oberg of Eugene, OR, Clifford (Patricia) Oberg of Sacramento, CA, Peggy Oberg of Sioux Falls, SD and Rodney (Diane) Oberg of Springfield, OR; four grandchildren, Austin and Garret Martinez of Abilene, TX and Thomas "TJ" and Mitchell Fulton of Madison, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Gerri was preceded in death by her parents.
