Geneva Ziemer, 99, Browns Valley, MN, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the Browns Valley Health Center, Browns Valley.
Funeral services were Monday, November 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley with Rev. Anna Williamson officiating. Music was provided by organist Janet LeClair and vocalists Jill Spindler and Lonny Brandell. Acolytes were Rosanne Sand and Shelley Lamers.
Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley. Pallbearers were Craig, Brad, and Todd Ziemer, Steve Lamers, Danny, Bruce, and Blake Spindler, Donnie Sand, and Lonny Brandell.
Visitation was Monday one hour prior to the services at the church. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt was in charge of the arrangements.
Geneva was born August 6, 1910, in Lawrence Township, Roberts County, SD, to John and Lydia (Eastman) Sykora. She graduated from Peever High School in 1929.
On December 25, 1929, Geneva married Willis Ziemer at the Methodist minister's home in Sisseton, SD. They farmed in Becker Township in Roberts County. In 1954, they moved into Browns Valley. Willis passed away in March 1993.
Geneva's hobbies included crocheting, quilting, and doing embroidery. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching and horse and dog racing. An avid bingo player, Geneva loved traveling with Willis and enjoyed being a member of the Square Dancing club.
Survivors include two children, Helen (Ray) Spindler of Rosholt, and Harry (Marlys) Ziemer of Browns Valley; seven grandchildren, Danny (Joanie) Spindler of Orlando, FL, Bruce (Jill) Spindler of Webster, SD, Rosanne (Donnie) Sand of Rosholt, Craig Ziemer, Bradley (Jean) Ziemer, Todd (Carol) Ziemer, and Shelley (Steve) Lamers all of Browns Valley; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Beatrice Heald of Clarkfield, MN.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Willis; parents, John and Lydia; brother, LeRoy Sykora; and three sisters, Violet Mussetter, Adalon Ziemer, and Rose Ella Swayze.
