Gene A. Herberg, 43, Brown Valley, MN, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018, in his home.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Minister Bev McNeill officiating. Music will be provided by organist Norma Jung and vocalists Sue Sykora and Stacey Borgheiinck.
Burial will be at a later date in the Holden Cemetery, rural Beardsley, MN. Pallbearers will be Craig Deutsch, Jason Madsen, Jerry Pederson, Rydell Schlimme, Lowell Syverson, Rick Buback, Matt Hormann, and Wayne Goodhart.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Church and will continue Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gene Arnold Herberg was born May 30, 1974, to Howard and Ileta (Sigler) Herberg at Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Holden Lutheran Church in rural Beardsley. Gene attended school in Beardsley, graduating from Beardsley/Valley High School in 1992. During high school, he was employed at Carlson Corner and worked for Gene Pierce Trucking. Gene was also on Jerry Lange's custom harvesting crew.
On September 3, 1994, Gene married Constance JoAnn Yost in Browns Valley. After their marriage, Gene drove truck for Oletzke Trucking and Deutsch Trucking. He worked for Ronglien Excavating, PCI, and BPI as a heavy equipment operator and was employed at the Big Stone Cheese Factory and the Roberts County Landfill. Gene also owned and operated Gene Herberg Trucking and Herberg Construction.
Gene was a member of the Teamsters Union and a bowling league. He enjoyed working on cars and trucks at Derby's and going for coffee and visiting. Gene especially loved spending time with his children and granddaughter Carly.
Survivors include his special friend, Sheri Brenner of Watertown, SD; sons, Howard Herberg, Casey Herberg, Vincent Herberg and Victor Herberg, all of Browns Valley; daughter, Danielle Herberg of Watertown, SD; granddaughter, Carly Huber; mother, Ileta Herberg of Clinton, MN; and brothers, Jeff and Donnett Herberg of Beardsley and Danny and Susan Herberg of Beardsley.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Howard Herberg; grandparents, Arnold Herberg, Ruth and George Van Hale, and Fern and Alvin Sigler; and aunts and uncles, Lloyd and Betty Herberg, John Herberg, and Butch Sigler.
