Gary Monson

Gary Lee Monson, 77, New Effington, SD, died Monday, October 3, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, ND, following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services and interment were Friday, November 4, at 2:00 p.m. at the New Effington Community Cemetery, New Effington, with Rev. Harold Watrous officiating.
Gary was born March 1, 1934, in Sioux Falls, SD, and was the son of Arthur and Mabel (Melland) Monson. He graduated from New Effington High School in 1952. From 1952 to 1956, Gary served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Gary then worked in the insurance and trucking industries. Gary lived most of his life in New Effington and also lived in Atlanta, GA, and Memphis, TN. Gary was also a patented inventor.
Gary is survived by five children, Scott (Sara) Monson of Old Hickory, TN, Barry (Amy) Monson of Adams, TN, Paula Bray-Monson of Memphis, TN, Brad (Mary Kay) Monson of Germantown, TN, and Mary (Ferrell) Allen of Federal Way, WA; eleven grandchildren, Mark Monson, Stephanie (Brooks) Lee, Patrick Monson, Christopher Monson, Sean (Ruthie) Monson, Allison (Scott) Rollins, Hunter Bray, Tyler Bray, Matthew Armstrong, Keri (Jory) Sadler, and Isaac Allen; and twelve great-grandchildren. Gary also leaves a host of friends and extended family.
His children wish to express their sincere appreciation to staff and physicians at the VA Medical Center, Fargo, ND, to George Knudsen, Kelly and Jill Eggers, Shirleen Fossum, Mavis and Duane Thoreson, and Brenda Ceroll.
