Garland D. Jenk, 87, Beardsley, MN, died Monday, December 10, 2012, at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN.
Memorial services will be Thursday, December 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Beardsley with Rev. Anna Williamson officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in the Beardsley Community Cemetery, Beardsley.
Garland Diedrich Jenk was born on November 6, 1925, to Diedrich P. and Bessie R. (Barnes) Jenk. Garland graduated from the Beardsley High School. On August 6, 1943, Garland enlisted in the U.S. Navy and received an honorable discharge on December 5, 1946. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Area Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal.      On June 30, 1951, Garland married Margaret B. Robak, and they were blessed with two children, son Steven and daughter Susan.
On July 11, 1951, Garland enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a Technical Sergeant until his retirement on July 1, 1968. Garland received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After retirement, Garland owned a cleaning service in Gulfport, Mississippi for several years. He then sold his business and enjoyed retirement in Mississippi in the winter months and lived in Minnesota in the summer. While in Minnesota during the summer of 2009, Garland had hip surgery and spent time in the Browns Valley Health Center and later in the Grace Home in Graceville, where he passed away on December 10, 2012.
Garland is survived by a son Steven Jenk, Gulfport, MS, and a daughter Susan Jenk, of Theodore, AL, and granddaughter Kimberly (Zachary) Beasley of Williamsburg,VA .
Garland was preceded in death by his father Diedrich P. Jenk and mother Bessie Ruth Jenk.
