Frances B. Brandell, 95, Rosholt, SD, died Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Countryside Inn Assisted Living in Rosholt.
Funeral services were Tuesday, November 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington, SD, with Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Music was provided by organist Debra Bredvik and vocalists Keith Falken, Lana Sand, and Gary and Pam Anderson.
Burial was in the Claire City Cemetery, rural Claire City, SD. Honorary pallbearers were the Countryside Inn Ding-A-Lings. Active pallbearers were Lonny, David and Jason Brandell, Joel Kemnitz, Charlie Vandeputte and Calvin Ceroll.
Visitation was Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt and continued Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Frances B. Brandell was born November 3, 1917, to Charles and Bolida (Johnson) Lorenson at Grenville, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Saron Lutheran Church at Roslyn, SD.
Frances married Earl Brandell on January 17, 1938, at Webster, SD. They became the parents of three children, Doris, John (Jack), and Bonita (Bonnie). During World War II, Frances worked at a defense plant in San Diego. After returning from California, they moved to Claire City where she worked for Ing Aasness in his grocery store. She later cooked at the Hellwig Sales Barn in Sisseton, at the elementary school in Claire City and at the Farmers' Inn Café.
Frances belonged to First Lutheran Church at Claire City where she was president of the ladies' aid and taught Sunday School classes. Earl passed away in 1971. Frances moved to an apartment in New Effington in 1985. In 2006, she made her home at the Countryside Inn Assisted Living Center in Rosholt.
Frances was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington. She faithfully attended church services, church classes and her WELCA circle. Frances was a charter member of the Ding-A-Ling Bell Choir at the Countryside.
Frances' special interests included quilting, baking and babysitting her great-grandchildren. She believed that the best meal for any holiday was lefse and lutefisk and was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She had a good sense of humor and always loved a good joke. Her favorite song was "Waltz Across Texas."
Survivors include her two daughters, Doris Kemnitz of Sisseton and Bonnie (Ron) Brandell Spitzer of Roanoke, TX; a daughter-in-law, Karen Brandell of Rosholt; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Rumpza of Waubay and Shirley Willard of Webster; a brother-in-law, Fred Lang of Washington; and many nieces and nephews. She was referred to as "Grandma" by many and will be truly missed.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jack; great-grandson, John Schuelke; three brothers, Henry, Clarence and Jesse Lorenson; and five sisters, Mabel De Wolfe, Ragna Hanson, Clara Wyganowski, Belle Melville, and Lorraine Lang.
