Florence A. Nelson passed away July 11, 2019, at the Grace Home in Graceville, reaching the age of 94 years. She entered the Grace Home July 13, 2018.
A private graveside ceremony only will be held at the deceased request. Burial will take place at the side of her first husband, Carl Larson, in the Clinton City Cemetery. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, is in charge of the arrangements.
Florence Adair Adolphson was born February 25, 1925, in Clinton, Big Stone County, MN, the daughter of Edward and Barbara (Brennan) Adolphson. Her home was Ed's Café on Main Street, Clinton. She was an only child and the oldest of 18 Adolphson cousins and 5 Brennan cousins; therefore, the Matriarch of the family for some years now.
She was baptized and confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church in Clinton. She graduated June 4, 1943, from Clinton High School and attended the Minneapolis School of Beauty Culture at 10 th and Nicollet, downtown Minneapolis, taking her State Boards in June 1944. She worked as a beautician in St. Paul, returned to Clinton and worked for Liz Stanton in the basement of the Drugstore on Main Street, Clinton.
On June 1, 1947, she married Carl E. Larson at Elim Lutheran Church by Pastor Linne' E. Bomgren. They made their first home in Malta Township, Section 20 and September 1, 1959, moved to Malta Township Section 19. They farmed east of Clinton until Carl's stroke in January 1976. Carl passed away at home March 19, 1982, at the age of 62. Left to cherish the memories are her children: Iva Lou Gillespie of Clinton, Lowell Larson of Ortonville, Eva Lyn (Richard) Ebnet of Benson; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and niece Karen (Larson) Bulik and her family of Highland Ranch, CO. A daughter, Lil Ian DeLima, preceded Florence's death on August 14, 2004, at the age of 49.
On April 28, 1990, Florence and John C. Nelson married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton by Pastor Lloyd Berger. They made their home at 124 1 st Street, Clinton, MN. Florence transferred her church membership from Elim to Trinity in April 1993. John passed away May 14, 1998, at the age of 82. Jack Nelson, stepson of Staples, MN, and Judy Nelson, stepdaughter of Woodbury, MN, survive Florence as well as 5 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren. Preceding Florence's death were a stepson, Jim Nelson, and a step-daughter-in-law, Jack's wife, Dee.
She lived an exemplary life of work, serving her church and community, caregiver for five generations of family members, enjoyed amazing friendships and travels, had the love of two fine men and was ready to "Go Home."
