Evelyn was born on December 7, 1918, to Anna and George Wurzinger in Eden, South Dakota. She and her twin sister Evangeline were the second and third daughters born with a brother and sister to follow. She attended the Catholic grade school in Eden, moving to Lake City, South Dakota, to attend high school. She and her twin sister graduated and together they moved to Britton, South Dakota, working as waitresses in Dakins' Drug store.
Evelyn married Richard Werner on September 28, 1938. Their early years of marriage were spent in Britton, Winner, and Sisseton, South Dakota. Two children were born, Carol Jean in 1945 and Ronald in 1947.
In 1949 the family moved to Rosholt, South Dakota, where Dick was appointed the Allis Chalmers dealer for the Rosholt area. Evelyn enjoyed being a stay at home mother and became active in the community. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, actively involved in the Ladies Circle, an officer of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rosholt Wrens' Club.
In 1979 Dick and Evelyn moved to Huron, South Dakota, where they spent summers and wintered in Arizona. She loved golfing and won the "Ace of the Year" title in Sun City West, Arizona. Dick and Evie moved to Colorado to be near their daughter Carol and family in 2009.
Evie made friends wherever she lived and looked forward to joining the activities-golf, bingo, cards, dancing, cooking and baking were some of her favorites. Her family loved her famous homemade caramel rolls, poppy seed bread and amazing bars!!
Her deep faith and love of God were evident in the way she lived her life. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, Carol (Joe) Dankey of Broomfield, CO; daughter-in-law Diane (Gary) Halse of Peoria, AZ; five grandchildren- Michele (Nicholas) Krznarich of Milton, GA, Jeffrey (Wendy) Dankey of Wayzata, MN, Maria (Charles) Lang of Lakewood, CO, Sarah (Eric) Peterson of Bloomington, IL, and Mathew Werner of Phoenix, AZ; seven great-grandchildren- Morgan and Aidan Peterson; Andrew, Katherine and Camille Krznarich; Bergen and Spencer Dankey; her sister Marian (Keith) Jackson of Anoka, MN; sister-in-law Lenore Hansen; brother-in-law Wally Schnaidt of Roseville, MN, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
