Evelyn Margaret Peterson

Evelyn (Evel) Peterson, 90, Rosholt, SD, formerly of Browns Valley, MN, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at the Rosholt Care Center, Rosholt.             Memorial services were Saturday, March 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton, SD, with Rev. William Schruba and Rev. Leslie Peterson officiating.  Music was provided by pianist Gloria Slaamot and vocalists Damien Riehl and Holly Anderson.             Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, rural Rosholt.             Extended family and friends were encouraged to come to the lake on Friday, March 26, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. to visit and share memories with her daughter Sammy and son-in-law Don Linhard at their home.             Evelyn Margaret was born October 6, 1919, in White Rock, SD, to Paul and Jenny (Johnson) Anderson.  Being raised on a farm, she told many stories of feeding the animals and picking eggs, watching harvest, riding to school in buggies, and the first car they had.  She shared many history lessons.             When she was a young girl, Evelyn had polio.  Her journey with this disease went from near immobilization to braces, crutches, surgery and finally walking, driving a car, riding bicycle and occasional horseback riding.  She wouldn't hear of a handicapped parking permit until her late 80's.  She was not handicapped.             Evelyn received a teaching degree from Northern Normal School in Aberdeen and taught rural school children before and after her marriage to Milton "Mickey" Peterson on October 12, 1940.  Her true calling was taking care of her husband, her kids, her grandkids, and her home and this became her life's occupation.             Her faith was always a part of her journey and helped her through the loss of their son, Lynn and her husband, Mick.            After Mickey died, she chose to live at Greenleaf Assisted Living Center and eventually was a resident of the Rosholt Care Center.  Her family will always be grateful for the loving care she received from both places.             Survivors include her daughter, Samantha and Don Linhard of Browns Valley, MN; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Paige and Damien Riehl and Aidan of St. Paul, MN, Michael and Sara Linhard and Alessandra of Pisa, Italy, and Ember and Scott Houghton, William and Sophie of St. Cloud, MN; a sister, Violet Rennerfeldt of Bloomington, MN; a special daughter-in-law, Judy and Jim Anderson of Las Vegas, NV, and their son, Joe and Holly Anderson of Rosholt.             Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; son, Lynn; sister, Hazel; and brother, Ellsworth.
