Evelyn H. Kleindl, age 92, Browns Valley, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the Browns Valley Health Center.
Visitation will be Friday, May 19, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial and a Celebration of Evelyn's Life at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, MN.
Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley.
Evelyn Helen Lewandowski was born October 30, 1930 in Grenville, SD, to Michael and Rosalie Lewandowski. She grew up in rural Sisseton, SD, and attended school in Sisseton.
On November 23, 1953, Evelyn was united in marriage to Laverne P. Kleindl at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley. They were blessed with three children, Eugene, Kim, and Lois. They shared over 37 years together before Laverne's passing on September 26, 1989.
Evelyn worked at Landsberger Creamery in Sisseton and Lynch's Processing Plant in Browns Valley. When the Browns Valley Nursing Home opened in 1971, she was a member of the initial crew that was hired. She worked there until she retired in 1992. After retiring she helped out at Darlene Smith's Little People's Daycare and Kathy Bartz with her painting. She loved being busy.
Evelyn was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, St. Anthony's Guild, the Christian Mothers, and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed planting a vegetable garden and tending to her flowers. There was always a freshly baked loaf of bread, cookie, pie, or pan of bars in her house. She was an avid seamstress, making many of her nieces bridesmaids gowns for their weddings over the years. She loved to crochet . . . doilies, afghans, Christmas decorations. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include her three children, Eugene (Julie) Kleindl of Alexandria, MN, Kim (Loren) DeRusha of McHenry, IL, and Lois (Jim) Peltier of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren, Nicholas of McHenry, IL, and Michael (Lisa) of McHenry, IL; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Madison, both of McHenry, IL; brothers-in-law, Ed Lamers of Browns Valley and Vernon Kleindl (Phyllis) of Apple Valley, MN; sisters-in-law, Joy Lewandowski and Sharon Kleindl of Browns Valley, MN, Patricia (Tricka) Kleindl of Graceville, MN, and Jeanette Kleindl of Newtonia, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Laverne; her parents, Mike and Rosie Lewandowski; three brothers, Jim, Mike, and Leonard Lewandowski; and eight sisters, Mary Philen, Sophie Matherson, Lillian Philen, Joan Serocki, Amanda Sykora, Rosie Serocki, Alvina Lamers, and Karda Stadtler.
