Evangeline "Vange" Carlson, 88, Graceville, MN, died Friday, February 11, 2011, in Graceville, MN. Memorial services were Saturday, February 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville with Father David Breu officiating. Music was provided by organist Debra Farwell. Burial will be at a later date in the Clinton City Cemetery, Clinton, MN. Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Jessica Fullen, Leonard Moeller Jr., and Scott Moeller. Visitation was Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. There was a wake service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation continued one hour before the service on Saturday. Evangeline was born June 5, 1922, in St. Cloud, MN, to Joseph and Olga (Hinrichs) Speier. In 1940, she graduated from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud, MN. Evangeline received a two year teaching degree from St. Cloud Teachers College. She taught country school in Grand Lake, MN, and later taught first and second grade in Clinton, MN. On November 27, 1947, Vange married Alvin "Butch" Carlson at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. She then worked at Spaulding's Department Store in Clinton. In 1955 Vange began teaching head start and kindergarten in Graceville. After retirement, she worked part time for D & K Tire Service (later Goodyear) in Ortonville, MN. Vange also volunteered at the thrift store in the old hospital building in Graceville. Butch died in April of 1993. Vange lived in the Clinton/Graceville area since 1945. She was a member of the St. Michael's Guild in Clinton and later the Holy Rosary CCW. Vange was church secretary in Graceville and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also clerk of Moonshine Township for many years. Vange loved playing bingo, shopping at Herbergers and TJ Maxx, and gardening. Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette (Don Konz) Moeller of Chokio, MN, and Virginia "Ginny" Cornelius of Leavenworth, KS; three grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Fullen, Leonard (Megan) Moeller Jr., and Scott Moeller; and one great-grandchild, Bryce Fullen. Vange was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, and four sisters.
