Eva Lackey, 87, Rosholt, SD, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN.
Funeral Mass was Monday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Jerome Ranek officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Honorary urn bearers were the Bridge Club Ladies. Active urn bearers were Eva's grandchildren, Justin Berger and Erin Lackey.
Visitation was Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.
Eva Mary was born January 27, 1928, to Alex and Freda (Schroeder) Pohl in Wheaton, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt. Eva attended first through sixth grade at the St. Francis Academy in Hankinson, ND, and high school in Rosholt, graduating in 1945. After finishing school, she worked as a teletype operator for the Santa Fe Railroad and did office work for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis. Eva then returned to Rosholt to help on the family farm.
On May 14, 1947, Eva married Delbert Lackey at the St. Joseph Lutheran Church in rural Rosholt. Together they raised three children, Bonnie, Mark and Sheila. Del and Eva farmed in the Rosholt area. In 1983, due to health reasons, they retired and moved into Rosholt. Del and Eva enjoyed going on bus tours, sightseeing various areas of the country.
Eva was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, where she served on the Altar Society. She also belonged to the Bridge Club, a bowling league and served as a 4-H leader.
Eva's hobbies included gardening and oil painting. She loved playing cards, especially Bridge.
Survivors include two children, Mark Lackey of Rosholt, and Sheila Lackey of Watertown, SD; a son-in-law, Bob Rolling of Monticello, MN; three grandchildren, Justin Berger, Erin Lackey and Ashley Lackey; two sisters, Carole (Ron) Lick of Rosholt, and Marlys Ladwig of Fargo, ND; and a sister-in-law, Anetis Pohl of Rosholt.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; a daughter, Bonnie; two infant sons; brothers, Harold and Delmar; and brother-in-law, Lyle Ladwig.
