Ethel Mae (Hardie) Peterson, 93, Dilworth, MN, formerly of Rosholt, SD, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Sanford Senior Behavioral Health Unit in Bemidji, MN.
Funeral services were Monday, June 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt, SD, with Rev. Nancy Quatier officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand and vocalists Ardyth Voss and the Barnum family.
Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery in Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Wesley Hardie, Jared Hardie, Corey Peterson, Wendy Wade, Wayne Hardie, and Kari Erlandson.
Visitation was Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation continued Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ethel Mae was born September 4, 1919, in rural Rosholt to Charlie and Mary (Garrison) Voss. She attended the rural Crawford school.
On December 11, 1937, Ethel married Newell Hardie in White Rock, SD. She later moved to Fargo where she owned and managed a hotel. She also did interior decorating.
On April 21, 1989, Ethel married Arvid Peterson in Dilworth, MN. After their marriage, they made their home in Dilworth where Ethel was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Ethel enjoyed flowers, bird watching, making lawn ornaments, bowling, playing cards and marbles, and fishing. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Arvid Peterson of Dilworth, MN; four children, Walter (Eleanor) Hardie of Fairmount, ND, Norma (Barry) Wood of Saginaw, MN, Charlie (Pat) Hardie of Alexandria, MN, and Dennie (Karen) Hardie of St. Francis, MN; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; three step-children, Randy (LuGene) Peterson of Lake Park, MN, Sherri (Bill) Little of Minneapolis, MN, and Lee (Cindy) Peterson of Lake Park; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Veoma Renelt of Rosholt and Francis "Toni" Kruize of Wahpeton, ND.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ardella and Rosella; three brothers, Grover, Fredrick and Donald; two grandchildren, Bradley Streeter and Brian Hardie; and a stepson, Rodney Peterson.
