Ernest R. "Ernie" Hrncir, 75, Claire City, SD, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND, after a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services will be Friday, September 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington with Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Music will be provided by organist Carolyn Fladland and vocalists Bob Schultz, Allen Schram, and Dean Stickland. Burial will be in the Norway Cemetery, rural Claire City. Military honors will be provided by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post 50 of Sisseton, SD. Pallbearers will be Corey Gray, Aarik Gray, Brogan Gray, Mark Hrncir, Tim Gleason, and Rudy Skoglund. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, and will continue Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Ernest Roosevelt was born December 29, 1933, in Claire City, to Joe and Mathilda (Podliska) Hrncir. He went to grade school at Vig School, rural Claire City. On January 14, 1954, Ernie enlisted in the U.S. Army. While serving in the Army, Ernie earned his GED. He was honorably discharged January 13, 1956. Ernie married Judy Gray on November 7, 1962 in Webster, SD. They farmed near Claire City where he resided until the time of his death. Judy passed away August 5, 2000. At the present time, he was employed at Consumer's Co-op in Claire City where he enjoyed having coffee and visiting with customers. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed going to the Dakota Magic Casino in Hankinson and Deano's Steakhouse in Claire City. Survivors include a daughter, Dawn and Jerry Lakness of Rosholt; two sons, Jeff Hrncir of Veblen, SD, and Matthew Hrncir of Claire City; two sisters, Florence Klobuchar of Arden Hills, MN, and Irene and Clifford Dalberg of Rosholt; two brothers, Gene and Joy Hrncir of Watertown, and Leonard and Martha Hrncir of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews. Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; parents, Joe and Mathilda; sister, Mary Ann Hedin; and brothers, Bob, Vernon, Joe, and Kenny Hrncir.
