Edward "Ed" Lamers

Edward H. Lamers, age 96, Browns Valley, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 10, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Fr. Stan Wieser officiating. Music will be provided by vocalist Todd Johnson.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley.  Military honors will be provided by the William Krensing American Legion Post 58 of Browns Valley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Serocki, Bill Appel, Pete Schmid, Stan Hippen, Jerry Kaus, Jim Madison, Dr. Stanley Gallagher, Chet Bigelow, Allen Jarman, and Kenny Westbrock.  Active pallbearers will be Seth Lamers, Leonard Lamers, Kenneth Ervin DuMarce, Jake DeMiarrs, Joe Reinart, and Lon Medbery, Jr.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church and will continue Friday morning one hour prior to the service.

Edward Henry Lamers was born June 28, 1927, to John and Margaret (Lenssen) Lamers in Graceville, MN.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley.  Ed attended school through the eighth grade. On March 23, 1951, Ed entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict earning the Army of Occupation Medal.  He was honorably discharged February 14, 1953.

On October 12, 1953, Ed married Alvina Lewandowski in Browns Valley.  After their marriage, they farmed and milked cows in Becker Township, Roberts County, SD.  Ed also sold monuments and memorial stones for Sunburst Memorials.  Alvina passed away November 13, 2013.

Ed was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, where he served as a District Deputy for several years.  For his years of dedication to the church, he received the Bishop's Medal of Merit from Bishop Hanus of the St. Cloud Diocese, submitted by Father Ekman, in October 1987.

Ed was also a lifelong member of the William Krensing American Legion and the Sisseton VFW Post 3342, as well as serving on the REA board of directors.  Ed received an Executive Proclamation from the State of South Dakota Office of Governor Rounds proclaiming December 15, 2008, as Ed Lamers Day.

Ed never met a stranger. He enjoyed visiting with everyone.  He also loved telling jokes and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his children, Michele (Greg) Schmidt of Beardsley, MN, Edward (Tammy) Lamers, James (Bev) Lamers, and Steve (Shelley) Lamers all of Browns Valley; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; brother, John (Donna) Lamers of Browns Valley; and sister-in-law, Joy Lewandowski of Browns Valley.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Alvina; parents, John and Margaret Lamers; in-laws, Mike and Rose Lewandowski; daughter, Julie; granddaughter, Lisa Schmidt; and sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Mickey Ward.
