Edna M. Gray, 83, Graceville, MN, passed away Friday, July 17, 2009, at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home, Menahga, MN.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 23, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville with Father David Breu officiating. The organist was Donna Arens and the vocalists were Doris Taffe, Rollie Bauer, and Phyllis Bauer. Special music was provided by Ryan Stockstrom.
Burial was in the Graceville Consolidated Cemetery, Graceville. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Nicole Pahl, Jackie Breidenbach, Holly Dickerson, Rachael Pederson, Shara Julik, Roxanne Stinar, Jessica Stockstrom, Andrea Gray, and Camille Vanderwal. Active pallbearers were her grandsons, Shawn Gray, Aaron Gray, Brad Gray, Ryan Pederson, Adam Vanderwal (presently serving in Kuwait), Jordan Pederson, Brent Pederson, and Tom Pahl.
Edna Mary Ellen Gray, daughter of Harvey and Mabel (Wallace) Geyer, was born October 15, 1925, in Danvers, MN. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Graceville and worked at Crowe Bros. and Creagen's Store. She married James W. Gray at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Collis, MN, on January 21, 1946.
They moved to California for two years and returned to the family farm at Graceville in 1948. Jim and Edna were blessed with five children. They moved into Graceville in 1972.
Edna's health caused her to educate herself in natural remedies and organic gardening. She especially enjoyed flowers and chickens! She loved seeing new places, being with her family, and found great joy in her grandchildren.
She was involved in Bible studies and had a heart of compassion and mercy. Her biggest joy was sharing her faith in the Lord.
Jim and Edna moved to Parks Rapids, MN, in 2003 to spend more time with family and at the lake, until health issues brought them back to Grace Village and Grace Home.
With most of the family living in the Park Rapids area, Edna moved to Green Pine Acres in Menahga. She passed away peacefully on July 17, 2009.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jim, of Menahga; two sons, Greg (Debra) Gray and Brian (Kathy) Gray of Park Rapids; two daughters, Correen (Lyle) Pederson of Dumont, MN, and Susan (Tom) Vanderwal of Park Rapids; a brother, Don (Beverly) Geyer of St. Cloud; 16 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Charlene; a sister, Evelyn Geurts; and three brothers, Howard, Roy and Lloyd Geyer.
