Edna Brandt, 93, Ortonville, MN., passed away Friday February 22, 2013 at Northridge Residence Nursing Home in Ortonville.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church of Clinton, MN with Rev. Kathleen Brandt officiating.
Edna Violet Helene Demke was born the youngest of five children to Emil and Lena (Weide) Demke on February 19, 1920 in rural Grant County, South Dakota. She attended rural school through the eighth grade and high school at Milbank High School, graduating in 1937. After high school, she helped out with domestic jobs wherever she was asked. She married Alfred J. Brandt in the Tabor E.U.B. Church (now Tabor United Methodist) in Big Stone City, South Dakota on Feb. 2, 1946. They became the parents of 5 sons: Gregory, Charles, Craig, (who died in 2004); Philip, and Arling (who died in 1981).
Edna, Alfred and their sons farmed in Grant County, SD for 8 years, and then moved to a farm north of Clinton, Minnesota in 1954. They continued farming until they retired and moved to Moorhead in 1984. Edna was a homemaker her whole life, which gave her much joy and fulfillment. She found great comfort in her Christian faith, especially at the times of great losses in her life. They moved to East Grand Forks, MN in 1999, living with son Craig and daughter-in-law Carol until Edna moved into the Clinton Care Center in 2005. Edna continued living at the Care Center until 2012. She then moved to the Northridge Care Center in Ortonville, MN, where she lived until her death. Alfred and Edna were blessed with 61 years of married life until Alfred's death in August 2007.
Edna is survived by: Sons: Gregory (Karen) Brandt, of Clinton, MN; Charles (Kathleen) Brandt, of Windom, MN; and Philip Brandt, of Portage, MI; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; Daughter-in-law Carol Brandt, of Wadena, MN; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred; 2 sons Craig Brandt and Arling Brandt; siblings Karl Demke, Alice Demke, Walter Demke, and Charlotte (Lottie) Brandt; and daughter-in law Val Brandt.
