Edna M. Andrews, 89, Browns Valley, MN, died Friday, October 8, 2010, at the Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.
Funeral services were Tuesday, October 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley with Rev. Anna Williamson officiating. Music was provided by organist Janet LeClair and vocalists Richard and June Evenson.
Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley. Honorary urn bearers were all of Edna's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active urn bearers were Arlie Andrews, John Andrews and Tyler Erdman.
Edna Marion was born February 13, 1921, to Arthur and Christine (Vassan) Smith in Roberts County, SD, near Lake Traverse. She was baptized and confirmed in the Assembly of God Church in Sisseton. Edna attended country school and graduated from Sisseton High School. After finishing school, she worked at Stavig's in Sisseton.
On August 25, 1942, Edna married Leslie Andrews in Wheaton, MN. After their marriage, she began working at the Sisseton Hospital as a nurse's aide and later at the Browns Valley Health Center for over 25 years.
Edna Marion was a member of the Browns Valley Auxiliary and for many years a member of TOPS. Edna loved shopping, flowers, gardening, making lefse, and baking buns and Christmas goodies. She also enjoyed playing cards and fishing.
On December 22, 2009, Edna made her home in the Browns Valley Health Center. Leslie passed away in 2007.
Survivors include three children, Ray (Kay) Andrews of Browns Valley, James (Diana) Andrews of Alexandria, MN, and Donald (Marcella) Andrews of Graceville, MN; ten grandchildren, Deb (Paul) Heck, Arlie Andrews, John (Brandy) Andrews, Heidi (Chris) Wilson, Christy (Bruce) Hess, Sarah (Steve) Hlinski, Patty (Steven) Suchy, James (Crystal) Andrews, Val (Vic) Hoffman, and Kayla (Matt) Kleindl; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elaine (Lloyd) Valnes and Ardyce (Dan) Maryott of Bremerton, WA; and brothers, Arvin (Verla) Smith of Bellfair, WA, and Floyd (Rita) Smith of Bremerton.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ricky; two grandchildren, James Andrews and Bryan Andrews; and a great-grandchild, Shannon Hoffman.
