Edward Everett (Eddie) Yost passed away suddenly on Monday, November 2nd, 2020, at Benedictine Living Community of Wahpeton, ND (St Catherine's). Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, a small family memorial service and burial will be held at the family farm.
Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, good neighbor and witty jokester. A little mischievous, he was known by family and friends as hard working, honest, reliable and always up for a good joke.
Eddie was born May 15th, 1957 at Ike's Chicken Shack in Browns Valley. He went to Hart #3 at the end of the driveway through 3rd grade and then transferred to New Effington when the country school closed. He graduated in 1975 from NEHS. Eddie was a farmer at heart and worked the land from 1975 until the early '90s when his brittle diabetes prevented him from continuing. Many people knew him from his time managing Greens Implement in Rosholt or from his time as a field man for Farm Service Agency (ASCS) in Sisseton.
November 3, 1979, he married his high school sweetheart, Melanie (Fladland). He liked to brag that he packed his suitcase and walked 50 feet across the yard to the "big house" that his grandfather Christ Yost built in 1912. They had two children, Kristin Yost (Neeki Bey) of Frisco, TX and Lindsay (Tim Gleason) of New Effington; two grandchildren, Olivia and Jay Bartnick; and brother, Delwin (Sue) Yost of Mobridge. He also leaves behind his two dogs that will miss him dearly.
Eddie and Melanie farmed and most recently operated Yost Family Insurance. He continued working as the Roberts County Weed Supervisor until May of 2016, but declining health conditions from 40 years of Type l diabetes forced him to retire. Together they enjoyed many sunsets and great conversations over the last 50 years. His intellect, wit and honesty will be missed.
A man of few words in his later years due to a number of strokes, he still enjoyed when people came to sit with him. He loved his caregiving angels from Home Health and other care facilities. What he lacked in patience, he made up for in good intentions and was always listening (sometimes when he wasn't supposed to be). He was even still winning arguments with Melanie! The zingers he had in his later years gave us all great laughs that we still talk about.
Preceding him in death are his parents Alvin and Beverly Yost; sister, Colletta Heald; and grandparents, John and Hazel Oliver and Christ and Emma Yost.
