Dorothy Goodhart

Dorothy Goodhart, 78, Browns Valley, MN, passed away August 4, 2021, at Edgewood in Sisseton, SD, surrounded by her family.

Funeral mass will be Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley. The service will be livestreamed on Eggers Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Browns Valley. Visitation is Saturday morning from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church.

Father John Paul Knopik will officiate the service. Organist will be Carmen Hills. Song leaders are Stacey Borgheiinck and Sue Sykora.

Dorothy M. Goodhart was born February 6, 1943, in Sisseton, SD, to Lloyd and Julia (Class) Stapleton. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton. She attended school in Sisseton and graduated in 1961. She attended Presentation College and the University of South Dakota.

On December 31, 1966, Dorothy married Jack Goodhart at St. Peter's in Sisseton. She was a teacher at the Browns Valley School, owned and operated Valley Realty, and spent many years farming with her family.

Dorothy was a member of St. Anthony's CCD, serving as coordinator for 10 years. She was also an active member of the Browns Valley Wrestling Club. Her hobbies included farming, gardening, cooking, fishing, and hunting. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Survivors include her three sons: John (Barb) Goodhart of Browns Valley, Wayne (Sarah) Goodhart of Beardsley, and Matthew (Carmen Hills) Goodhart of Browns Valley. Six grandchildren: Casey (Chelsey), Cami, Lacey, Hannah, Piper, and Jack; a great-grandson due in October. Siblings: Dayl Stapleton of Lakewood, CO, Joe (Devra) Stapleton of Manteca, CA, Bill (Donna) Stapleton of Albert Lea, MN, and Mike (Rachel) Stapleton of Browns Valley. Brother-in-law: Roger (Karen) Goodhart of Browns Valley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents Lloyd and Julia Stapleton, and sister Rita Stapleton.
