Dorothy Elaine was born January 3, 1929, to Bernard and Minnie (Restan) Rinken in Linn Grove, IA. During her childhood, she attended a country school where her sister Viola taught. In 1940, Dorothy and her family moved to Sedan, MN, and then later moved to a farm near Browns Valley where she met the love of her life.

On May 10, 1947, Dorothy married Harley Douglas. They were happily married for 66 years. During those 66 years, Dorothy had some of the greatest moments of her life. She had her three sons, Jerry, Larry and Jack. Her sons may have given her a few heart attacks as they grew up, but they also gave her some of her greatest blessings, like her grandchildren. Dorothy loved her family. She would always make sure every holiday was spent together with a big meal so no one went hungry. Dorothy was very proud of her family.

Dorothy worked at Dakota Quilts where she did what she loved - making beautiful quilts. Later, Dorothy and Harley managed the Valley Vista Apartments in Browns Valley for 22 years before retiring together. Harley passed away August 11, 2013.

Survivors include a son, Jerry (Heather) Douglas of Phoenix, AZ; daughters-in-law, Tammy Douglas of Beardsley, MN, and Carolyn Douglas of St. Cloud, MN; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold (Virgy) Rinken of Glenwood, MN; two sisters, Catherine Powers of Fargo, ND, and Gladys Johnson of Denton, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Harley; two sons, Larry and Jack; three brothers, Bernard, Virgil and Minert Rinken; and two sisters, Henrietta Carey and Viola Head.
