Doris M. Roeder, 76, Rosholt, SD, died Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were Wednesday, August 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt with Rev. Nancy Quatier officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand.
Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were all of her close friends. Active pallbearers were Tom Wagner, Bob Thompson, Dale Voss, Tony Oster, Dennis Nelson, and Curtis Wagner.
Visitation was Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.
Doris Marie was born May 15, 1936, in rural Rosholt to Anton "Tony" and Erna K. (Hanson) Wagner. Doris attended school in New Effington. After graduating from New Effington High School in 1954, Doris worked at a bank in Browns Valley.
On October 28, 1954, Doris married Roger Roeder in New Effington. Following their marriage, she worked as a cook at the Rosholt School and for Flossie Larsen at the Midway Café. She later operated the Midway Café on her own for a time. Doris also worked at the Glacial Lakes Rest Area for several years.
Doris was a volunteer member of the Rosholt Ambulance for several years, serving as president. She also served on the Rosholt Housing Committee, now HRC, and was instrumental in getting the new townhomes in Rosholt built. Doris and Roger were the first tenants in 2001.
Doris enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble. One of Doris's most exciting events was winning a car at the casino. Above all, Doris enjoyed spending time with family.
Survivors include her husband, Roger of Rosholt; daughter, Paulette (Keith) Schmitz of Wheaton, MN; son, Jon (Gayle) Roeder of Rosholt; a granddaughter, Tracey Schmitz (Adam Boyer) of Carlos, MN; son-in-law, Dave Reineke of Delano, MN; and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Alex Hornseth of Rosholt.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Becky; and grandson, Chris Schmitz.
