Donna M. Spotts

Donna M. Spotts, 83, Browns Valley, MN, died Monday, February 14, 2011, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were Thursday, February 17, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley with Rev. Anna Williamson officiating. Music was provided by organist Neoma Ballhagen and the Browns Valley Community Choir.
Burial will be at a later date in the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley. Urn bearers were Donna's grandchildren, Martin Monson, Ryan Hurlbut, Kelli Rinehart, Shane Raw, Jodi Raw, and Courtney Raw.
Visitation was Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Donna Marie was born January 2, 1928, in Sisseton, SD, to Hans C. and Velva (Steele) Christensen. She was baptized in the Lee Union Sunday School, Wilmot, SD. She attended school in Browns Valley, graduating from Browns Valley High School in 1945.
On August 14, 1946, Donna married William "Bill" Spotts in Wheaton, MN. After their marriage, Donna worked at Medbery's Grocery Store and Hank's Traverse Café. Donna was known as "The Smiley Cook" at the Browns Valley School where she cooked for 29 years. She retired in 1994.
Donna was a member of the United Methodist Presbyterian Church and held many offices on the various church committees. She also belonged to the Browns Valley Community Choir, Band Mothers, Alumni Association, Valley View Cemetery Board for many years, and a volunteer at the Browns Valley Health Center of which she was a board member there for eight years. Donna enjoyed Sweet Adeline's, her bowling league with Dan's Café for over 40 years, and the Birthday Club for over 50 years.
Some of her favorite activities included traveling, camping, fishing, and playing cards. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed making sure her single boys had treats. Everyone loved her stuffing, baby dill pickles and salsa.
Survivors include her husband, Bill of Browns Valley; three children, Judi (Tom) Monson of Wheaton, MN, Vicki (Curt) Powers of Browns Valley, and Jan (Terry) Biewer of Moorhead, MN; six grandchildren, Martin (Renee) Monson, Ryan Hurlbut, Kelli (Dan) Rinehart, Shane (Samantha) Raw, Jodi Raw, and Courtney Raw; two great-grandchildren, Annika and August Monson; and a brother, Gary (Darlene) Christensen of Browns Valley.
Donna was preceded in death by her son, Lynn Spotts; and parents, Hans and Velva Christensen.
