Donald H. Schildt

Donald H. Schildt, 89, Browns Valley, MN, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at his residence.          Funeral mass was Friday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating.  Music was provided by organist Norma Jung and the St. Anthony's Choir.         Burial was in the Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton, MN.  Honorary pallbearers were Donald's friends and members of the Knights of Columbus.         Visitation was at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Thursday, April 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.          Donald Herman Schildt was born on February 27, 1921, in Traverse County, MN, to Herman and Gertrude (Yezek) Schildt.  He was baptized in Dumont, MN.  Donald attended rural school through the 8th grade.  On January 27, 1948, he was married to Muriel Krauth, who died of a heart condition on December 3, 1949.         On January 15, 1955, Donald was married to Violet Gath at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley, MN.  From this union they were blessed with six children.   Don was a lifelong farmer in the Browns Valley area.  He began farming in Minnesota and later moved to Roberts County, SD, in 1972.  After retirement in 1986, Don and Violet spent many hours on the lakes fishing.  Don looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They moved to Browns Valley in 1997.          Donald was active in the church.  He served as trustee for twelve years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight.          Survivors include his wife, Violet of Browns Valley, six children, Daniel (Rosie) Schildt of Lilburn, GA, Ramona (Keith) Nielsen of Sisseton, SD, Tim (Susan) Schildt of Dallas, TX, Terry (Patty) Schildt of Lilburn, GA, Anita (Dave) Tohm of Wheaton, MN, Randy (Susan) Schildt of Montevideo, MN; fourteen grandchildren, Chris, Jason, Jennifer, Brian, Angie, Carrie, Alison, Gena, Michael, Cassie, Calvin, Samantha, Kyra and Brandyn; seven great-grandchildren, Tanley, Brenley, Kashley, Hunter, Gabrielle, Taylor,  and Tiffany; and sister Dorothy (Lawrence)  Reineke of Beardsley.         Don was preceded in death by his wife Muriel, parents, brother Herbert Schildt, and sister and brother-in-law Ilene and Louis Borgheiinck.
