Donald P. Klicker, 81, Wheaton, MN, died Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the Sanford Wheaton Medical Center in Wheaton.
Funeral services were Wednesday, December 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt, SD with Pastor Suzanne Benidt officiating. Music was provided by organist Edelle Magnuson and vocalists Pam and Gary Anderson and John and Carol Sailer.
Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery, White Rock, SD. Military honors were provided by the Wheaton VFW Post 5909, Merton Dale American Legion Post 80 and the Sons of the American Legion. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Fischer, Mike Wanek, Larry Englund, Marlyn Larson and Jim Coffman. Active pallbearers were Nathan, Steven, Scott and Matthew Klicker, Jonathan Englund and Bruce Klicker.
Visitation was Tuesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.
Donald Paul Klicker was born on September 24, 1930, in Traverse County, MN, to Frank and Ella (Jastram) Klicker. He was baptized October 5, 1930, in Dumont, MN, and confirmed June 13, 1943, at Monson Church in Wheaton. He attended school in rural Traverse County and as a teenager moved to Callaway, MN. Don later attended school at WCSA in Morris, MN.
On January 11, 1953, Donald married Ruth Eleanor Swanson at Augustana Lutheran Church in White Rock. Don enlisted in the United States Army on April 20, 1953, and was discharged June 14, 1954. He was awarded the Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
After his discharge, he returned to the family farm in Traverse County and farmed with his father. Don was later employed at creameries in Audubon, MN, and Barnesville, MN, and also St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, MN. In 1966, Don and Ruth moved the family back to Wheaton to live on Ruth's family farm near White Rock. Here they continued to farm and raise dairy cattle. Don was also a seasonal employee at Minn-Dak in Wahpeton, ND.
Don was a life member of the Wheaton VFW Post 5909. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and the Minnesota Twins. In their later years, Don and Ruth enjoyed going to craft shows with projects they had made together.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Wheaton; four children, Kenneth (Karen) Klicker of Menahga, MN, Audrey (Robert) Fischer of Macon, GA, Linda (Mike) Wanek of Doran, MN and Jane Englund of Wheaton; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Nathan (Denise) Klicker – Caleb, Grace & Sarah; Steven (Tess) Klicker; Scott (Carly) Klicker – Jonas; Matthew Klicker; Rachel Hogsten – Madison; Daniel (Laura) Fischer; Megan Wanek; Jonathan Englund; Katie (Kelly Sieve) Englund – Cambria & Elleigh; Haley Englund.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary; two brothers, Marvin and Ervin; and two sisters, Gladys and Evelyn.
