Donald Bernard Braun was born on July 15, 1928, along with twin brother Delmar, to Henry and Mary (Kraus) Braun in Breckenridge, MN. He went to country school through the 8th grade at Moreland White Rock Township. After school, he farmed with his father and brothers.
Following a courtship with Anna Mae Brockhaus, they got married on August 30, 1949, and they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2024. This union blessed them with 6 children, Michael, Kenneth, Marian, Robert, Terrence, and Diana.
Donald and Anna Mae bought a farm in 1949 north of Rosholt. For many years Donald and his brothers baled hay together during the summer for their livestock, stacking thousands of bales over the years.
Donald sold Dekalb seed corn, was a 4-H leader and a member of the Roberts County Pork Producers where he helped cooked hundreds of pork loins and serve sandwiches at county and state events. Some grandsons helped at these events and developed their love of cooking.
A favorite memory of grandchildren was riding with Grandpa as he was delivering pigs all across the country. With his infamous sweet tooth, he always had spicy gum drops and sour gummy worms that he would share with his little helpers.
Card playing was one of his favorite pastimes and he played with all his children and taught the grandchildren how to play rummy. He would always give them a bad time when he couldn't figure out why they were picking up the card he needed to rummy on the play ahead of him.
Donald's faith was very important to him. He taught high school religious classes and was a lector at St. John the Baptist Church for many years. Donald and Anna Mae also volunteered as Sacristans while living in town across from church.
Donald and Anna Mae retired from farming and moved from the country to their house in Rosholt in 2007 where they lived until they moved to the Tekakwitha Care Center in Sisseton in 2023.
