Dennis P. Peterson, 86, Sisseton, died Friday, November 6, 2020, at his home in rural Sisseton.
A public viewing will be held Tuesday, November 10, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, November 11, at 3:00 p.m. at Saron Cemetery, rural Sisseton. Pallbearers will be Robert Muellerliele, David Muellerliele, Daniel Bennis, Derek Peterson, Mark Peterson, and Ron Peterson.
Military honors will be provided by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post 50 of Sisseton and the Fort Sisseton VFW Post 3342.
Dennis Phillip Peterson was born May 7, 1934, to Ervin and Mildred (Dullum) Peterson in Sisseton. He attended school in Sisseton and graduated from Sisseton High School. He then earned his bachelor's degree in Animal Science at South Dakota State University. Dennis was also a member of the South Dakota National Guard.
Dennis was united in marriage to Joanne Bunde on June 30, 1957, at Fort Smith, AR. They farmed and raised black Angus cattle in rural Sisseton their entire lives. Dennis never retired and enjoyed ranching until the end.
Dennis was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as an usher his entire adult life. He enjoyed playing pinochle and whist with his family and friends and having coffee with his neighbors.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; sons, Daniel (Pam) Peterson of Horace, ND, James Peterson of Sisseton, David Peterson of Sisseton, and Jon (Theresa) Peterson of Medford, OR; and six grandchildren, Rachel Peterson, Kelly Peterson, Erin Peterson, Zachary Luptak, Samantha Carlson, and Breslyn Peterson.
Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Paul Peterson.
Directions to the Saron Cemetery from Sisseton: 2 miles west on Highway 10, 4 miles north on Claire City Rd, 1 mile west on 115 th St, and ¼ mile north to Saron Cemetery.
