Delas V. Schultz, 79, Claire City, passed away Friday, September 23, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.
Funeral Services will be Friday, September 30, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Claire City.
Delas Verle Schultz was born May 17, 1943, to Harold and Ardella (Chilson) Schultz in Sisseton, SD. He was baptized and confirmed at Brandvold Lutheran Church, Victor, SD. He grew up on a farm north of New Effington and attended school in rural New Effington.
On June 15, 1968, Delas was united in marriage to Sheila Medenwald at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lidgerwood, ND. Together, they raised three sons: Kevyn, Mark, and Kent. After their marriage, they moved to Sioux Falls and Delas co-owned a garbage company. From there they moved to a farm north of Claire City and later made their home in town. Delas worked at many jobs including the Hammer Elevator and as a bus driver and custodian at the Claire City School. He also helped local farmers driving truck and worked at the Claire City and Rosholt Elevators. Sheila passed away March 10, 2020.
Delas loved going to coffee and shaking dice in the café and always enjoyed visiting with everyone. Delas was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a short six months ago. He passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Survivors include his three sons, Kevyn (Jennifer) Schultz of Veblen, SD, Mark (fiancée Lisa Koch) Schultz of Wheaton, MN, and Kent Schultz of Claire City; eleven grandchildren, Samantha, Matthew, Seth, Kayden, Emma, Tia, Mackenzie, Sidney, Sadee, Trever, and MacKayla; three great-grandchildren, Eli, Asher, and Everley; brother, Harold Robert (Cheryl) Schultz of Claire City; sisters, Gail (Joe) Gettel of Lidgerwood, Lynn (Mike) Patterson of Graceville, MN, Debbie (Tim) Heley of Texas, and Jackie (Mark) Taffe of Graceville; brothers-in-law, Ruben (Jane) Medenwald of Lidgerwood and Timothy Medenwald of Wahpeton, ND; sisters-in-law, Ione (Steve) Siemieniewski-Hermes of Fairmount, ND, Sandra Bartunek of Fargo, and Debbie (Jim) Woitaszewski of Webster, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Delas was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila; parents, Ardella and Harold; sister, Sharon; sister-in-law, Sylvia; and nephew, Daren Ceroll.
