David R. Schnell

David R. Schnell, 67, Sisseton, SD, formerly of Osakis, MN, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022, at his home.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt with Rev. Vern Donnell officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

The service will be livestreamed on the Eggers Funeral Home Facebook page.

Burial will be at a later date in the Hudson Cemetery, Alexandria, MN. Honorary pallbearers will be very, very, close friends of the family, Matt and Jeff Hrncir.

David Roy Schnell was born July 29, 1955, in Mendota, IL, to Donald and Virginia (Hahn) Schnell. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Amboy, IL. He attended school in Rochelle IL, and Villard, MN, graduating in 1973.  After finishing school, David was employed at Haub Farms in Villard.

On September 30, 1978, David married Gayle Koch in West Union, MN.  David worked at John Deere in Glenwood, MN, for five years.  In 1986, David and Gayle bought a dairy farm in Osakis, MN, where they milked cows and raised their three children.

In 2002 David and Gayle moved to Sisseton, SD, where David took a job at Sara Lee as a bread delivery driver. He was well known in the community as "The Breadman."  David retired on January 7, 2019.

David loved fishing with his children and grandchildren, golfing with his close friends, and playing cards for hours with his family. He also enjoyed many years of family camping adventures and unforgettable casino trips with Gayle and his parents. David liked spending time in his office talking on the phone with his friends and family and playing on his ipad.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle of Sisseton; children, Brent (Jenni) Schnell of New Effington, Nicole (Jake) Steele of Osakis, MN, and Mike (Steph) Schnell of Brainerd, MN; grandchildren, Colby, Mackenzie, Madeline, Chloe, Ethan, Bailey, and little Jake; great grandchildren, Douglas, Quinton, baby Nicole, Ira, and Romen; brothers, Dennis Schnell of Alexandria, MN, Doug Schnell of Phoenix, AZ; and sister Amy Steele of Osakis.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Virginia.
